Skeet the Game

skeet field1Squads of up to five people shoot from eight shooting stations arranged in a semi circle between two skeet houses. One is identified as the high house and the other as the low house. The high house targets start at approximately 10 feet above the ground with the low house targets at approximately a 3 foot height. The shooting sequence is as follows:

  • Stations I and 2: High house single: Low house single; High house/Low house pair
  • Stations 3, 4 and 5: High house single; Low house single.
  • Stations 6 and 7: High house single; Low house single; Low house/High house pair.
  • Station 8: High house single; Low house single.

The 25th shot, completing the round, is taken immediately after the first miss or with 24 consecutive targets broken as a second single target at low house 8.

Skeet may be shot with any gauge gun (of almost any type) as long as it is capable of firing two shells. Number 9 shot is used for virtually all gauges.

Clor Skeet Field

The word "skeet" is derived from the Scandanavian word for "shoot."Credit for naming the game goes to Gertrude Hurlbutt, a Dayton, Montana housewife, who in 1926 won a contest for naming the new game. Among the thousands of entries in the contest were "Bang" and "Bye Bye Blackbird."

Skeet shooting is one of three major type of competitive shotgun shooting sports. The other two are Trap and Sporting Clays. Sporting Clays can be divided into 5-Stand and Sporting Clays. All of these activies are offered at CGESC. Skeet has another type called Olympic Skeet or International Skeet.
