The Winter League Quacker
February 2010 • Week Two
Nine Duck Buckles up for grabs so far
This year’s Winter League is designed to reward club members for coming out to shoot for eight consecutive weeks by offering a well run program and a quality trophy package. Because the main purpose is to give shooters a chance to relax, get to know each other and just to cover costs, we are able to offer these unique buckles at very good odds. One buckle will be awarded for every four shooters, thanks to the generous support of our Sponsors. Please take a moment to thank the Sponsors for making this league possible. If you have not seen the Winter League Buckles, check them out at the Winter League table anytime. These are limited edition, high quality buckles on a par with any trophy offered at much larger shoots.
The competition is already fierce and the Lewis Class payout method ensures that buckles are distributed throughout the ranks of shooters from Advanced to Novice. The Lewis Class System is explained in detail on page two using Week One and Week Two’s scores as an example, see how you fared! After eight weeks of shooting, the chances of tie scores will be greatly reduced.
The culmination of Winter League will be an Awards Banquet and Game Shoot, where participants can bask in the glory of their victory or share their sorrows and the agony of defeat with other league shooters.
It’s not too late to sign up for Winter League
Winter League rules allow two make-ups forward and two make-ups backward, so there is still time to sign up and shoot for one of those buckles. If you have a friend that wants to join Winter League, bring’em along. More shooters means more buckles awarded. At one pay in four, you will never have a better chance to win!
Grover was a quack shot in his day
The good looking, web-footed shooter featured on our Winter League Buckle is “Grover”. His real name is Eugene, but the nick name stuck the first time he landed on his pond south of Creswell. Although primarily a trapshooter, Grover also likes to shoot the Sporting Clays course because he feels it gives bird hunters a more humane outlet to practice their skills. Duck hunting is kind of a sore subject with Grover.
Awards Banquet & Game Night
The date has been set for the he Winter League Awards Banquet and Game Shoot. Mark your calendar for Tuesday March 16. Reino Linden will set a course of games for fun and challenge to begin in the afternoon. You never know what he may come up with. Be prepared for Flurries, Annies, Do-Dah’s and more. More games will follow dinner for those interested. At 6 o’clock, Mike and Rob will serve St. Patrick’s Day fare of corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes and carrots. Buckle presentations will be made at the Banquet, along with the awards of special Team trophies for shooters and our Sponsors. Guests of shooters are encouraged to join us at the banquet for a nominal fee. Please stop by the Winter League table to reserve seating for you and your guests.
The Lewis Class System Explained
The Lewis Class is a system of dividing competitors into equal groups of ability after the event scores have been shot. It eliminates the need to pre-classify a shooter’s ability before the competition, something that is difficult, if not impossible to do. Based on the scores shot in Week One and Week Two of this year’s Winter League, the following example illustrates how the Buckles would be awarded. The actual Buckle Awards will be based on the scores shot over the entire eight weeks of Winter League. One Buckle will be awarded for every four shooters.
Trap League (16 shooters = 4 Buckles)
Skeet League (19 shooters = 5 Buckles)
(Class divisions shown as dotted line)
TIEbreaker Rules
At the end of the eight week League, any and all ties will be settled according to these tiebreaker rules:
1. Highest score on last four weeks.
2. Highest score on last two weeks.
3. Highest score on Week 1 + Week 8
4. By casting lots
